  • IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF ALL SERIAL OFFENDERS

Faculty, staff, or administrators who commit multiple acts of sexual violence (sexual harassment, assault, rape) should be immediately removed from the campus. This is both a necessary measure for ensuring the safety of survivors and the campus community at large, and a fundamental deterrent.

  • CLARIFICATION AND SPECIFICATION OF UC TITLE IX POLICY, AND ITS APPLICATION

The UC-wide Title IX policy is vague in much of its language, and arbitrary in its definitions of what constitutes sexual assault. We seek to clarify and specify the UC policy for the UCLA campus. A democratic body made up of members representing all constituent parts of our campus (undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff) should complete this task. The way Title IX has been applied so far has been proven insufficient and unjust towards victims.

  • FORM A DEMOCRATIC COMMUNITY OVERSIGHT BOARD

A more democratic process for reviewing cases and deciding appropriate discipline and remedial measures is needed. The current process lacks transparency, is handled by administrators and a very small number of faculty, and can take up to three years. It is also based on behaviors that promote silencing and operate first and foremost in the interest of the institution and not of the victims. We demand from the University and the Title IX office a more democratically constituted body, made up of all constituent parts of the campus, which would have the power to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct and decide discipline and community remedies. This should not be another advisory organization whose membership is decided behind closed doors, but an official body that would be responsible to the campus community.
